Seaton continued on with there fine pre season form by defeating a very
useful Cockermouth team that played some fantastic rugby and will surely make an
easy path back to the first division under the tutelage of Gary Murdock. The
game began with both teams making good yards up front and putting in some great
defensive hits and it was Cockermouth who scored the first try as the Burns
brothers combined and after Seaton misread the play Jamie Skillen went through
the gap and stretched out to score despite a last ditch tackle by Lee Hunter. It
wasnt long before Seaton hit back however as Tony Roper started to make big
inroads down the left hand side and on a last tackle play a Chris George cross
field kick was snapped up by Shaun Johnsen to go under the sticks for a try he
converted. Cockermouth continued to move the ball from side to side making the
Seaton defence work hard but the tackling was superb and Seaton took the lead
when Ryan Blair motored in from 30 metres out to go under the posts beating his
man with a mesmeric sidestep. Johnsen again converted. 12 6 and that was to be
how it stayed at half time. The second half followed a similar pattern and
Seaton were the next team to get on the score board when an inside pass found
Paul Bell and he took three defenders over the line with him to score the try
which was unconverted. With ten minutes to go that lead was extended when 16
year old Nathan Kirkbride beat three defenders and raced seventy metres to score
a superb try to go with a marvellous defensive stint that he had put in
throughout the game. Cockermouth did hit back when the dangerous Lee Burns
rounded a static defence to score and unconverted try, but Seaton had the final
word when an inside ball 15 metres out saw a determined Andy McGlasson piggy
back defenders over the line with him for a final score of 24
