Maryport 24 Seaton 24 Seaton
finished off there friendly programme with a draw at Maryport in a game
that was a great run out all round with both teams getting benefit from
it. Another slow start from Seaton saw Maryport in the ascendancy early
on and they scored in there first set with brett smith using his bulk to
force his way over the try line on the blind side as the half wore on
though Seaton managed to get there way into the game on the back of a
good team ethic and soon were level when on the last play a short kick
through from George was collected at speed by Ryan Blair to score, Moyle
converting and that lead was extended even further when after a good
maryport kick the ball fell loose to Dan Watson who went sixty metres to
be tackled short but from the resultant play the ball 16 year old Lee
Dixon dummied the defence and went over under the sticks, Moyle again
converted. 12 4 at half time. The second half started well for Seaton
with Adam Hodgson feeding Moyle who took three defenders ten metres over
the line to score in the corner but he couldnt convert. Maryport then
enjoyed a purple patch with Scholey and Foster prominent and went from
16 4 down to having a 20 16 lead as the game entered the final period of
the game. Not to be overrawed Seaton came back thanks to unlikely source
of Nicky Williamson as he threw a superb cut out ball for Helliwell to
go in at the corner. Curwens conversion attempt was horrible. From the
kick off Seaton lost the ball and when they didnt number up correctly in
defence Maryport scored what was surely the winning try? Wrong on the
back of a great set of six led by Craig Dowling seaton got a penalty for
a high tackle and on the third tackle Peter Watson made a great run and
in a three man tackle offloaded to Keith Hunter who went for the line
and when tackled offloaded to Williamson who put on a step and crashed
over. Phillips missed the kick that would have won the game but it was a
great game and a fitting result |
