Maryport 10 Seaton Rangers 30
Seaton
continued to gather momentum in a season that is shaping up to be one
of achievment if this sort of form can be maintained throughout, but
they were made to fight hard before finally putting a spirited Maryport
side to bed. The early running was all Seaton as Maryport, shorn of
several key men looked an outfit short on confidence and it was no
surprise when Seaton took the lead when after good yardage was made the
ball was spread wide by George to find Blair who managed to finish off
the play, Phillips missing a difficult conversion. Soon after the lead
was extended when Nathan Kirkbride who was lively throughout managed to
ground the ball despite the attentions of two defenders. Maryport
started to claw there way back into the game thanks to a good kicking
game and eventually they got on the scoresheet as they attacked the
blind side and Vaughan squeezed over in the corner. Seaton were then
reduced to twelve men when after an alteracation Lee Hunter was
dismissed and Steve Scholey sin binned and the score stayed 8 4 at half
time. The game was even at the start of the second half but it was
Seaton who struck first when George caught the defence flat footed to
go under the sticks, but back came Maryport and they were soon within
striking distance as Dickinson offloaded and Telford scampered over by
the posts, Scholey converting. Then came the games defining moment.
Callum Phillips put the ball out on the full and from the resulting
penalty Maryport tapped the ball and lost it on the first tackle as
Phillips made amense with a ball and all hit. In the next set of six
Humphreys exploited the blind side and Routledge powered over Moyle
goaling, The game was then made safe as Curwen went over Moyle again
goaling before Ryan Blair rounded it off with a superb finish after
being freed by Johnsen from the scrum to cap a fine all round team
performance punctuated by the Phillips brothers, Routledge, Hodgson and
