Seaton opened there
league campaign with a welcome win over a
Wath Brow side that showed they are capable
of breaking into the leagues top four and
what a tough nut to crack they will be as
the put in an energetic committed display
only just falling short. The start of the
game was edgy with both teams trying to find
there rythymm but it was Brow that were
first to settle and would have went in front
but for sustained goal defence of the
highest order from Seaton. Seaton then blew
a good chance as a short kick through near
the line was regathered and then dropped by
Chris Highton but he made amends shortly
after it as he got on the end of some fine
passing from Shaun Johnsen to squeeze in at
the corner. Brett Phillips added a superb
touchline conversion and the lead was
doubled not long after when from a 20 metre
restart Craig Humphreys found Richard George
who rounded the full back to go under the
posts for an 80 metre effort. That was to be
how the half ended as Phillips goaled for a
twelve nil margin. The second half was a nip
and tuck affair but Seaton were turning over
to much ball and after back to back sets the
ball went wide and McClelland used his bulk
to sneak over the line out wide but missed
the conversion. Brow now had there second
wind and more poor ball retention was giving
them a sniff and on the hour the gap was
closed to two points as Coyles took three
over the line with him and McClelland
converted. From then on Seaton intensified
there efforts and Brow never really looked
like scoring again but it was only in the
closing moments that the match was made safe
as Andy McGlasson powered over the line and
Phillips added another superb conversion.
Top performers on the day were Routledge and
Curwen
