LEAGUE CUP
GLASSON 14 SEATON 22
The previous two encounters by these two well
matched sides both ended by Seaton winning by 8 points and remarkably,
Seaton won again by 8 points in a nail biting league cup game that went
right down to the wire.
Seaton started very strong with Stewart Galacher, Dan Monkhouse and Jon
Carl Bryan driving hard towards the Glasson line. Superb Glasson
defence, with second row forward Albie Towers leading the way, kept
Seaton from scoring.
A good break by Seatons centre Jack Parker resulted in hooker, Jack Earl
bursting over the line taking four Glasson defenders with him for an
excellent try. Kieran Mewes added the conversion. From the kick off, a
Seaton fumble gave Glasson possession close enough to the Seaton Line
for Eithan Wier to score in the far corner.
After Seaton conceded two consecutive penalties, Glasson centre, Jamie
Blamire blasted his way through some weak Seaton defence giving them a
lead of 8 – 6.
Just before half time, Conor Fitzsimmons timed his running to perfection
when steaming onto a Domonic Smallwood pass to go under the posts and
with Mewes converting giving Seaton a half time lead of 8-12. A powerful
run from his own half resulted in Conor Fitzsimmons racing under the
Glasson posts, Mewes converting.
Seaton prop forward Ellis Mewes barged forward to offload to Greg Benson
who fed Domonic Smallwood who in turn found the rampaging Conor
Fitzsimmons who proved to strong for the Glasson defence for a superb
try. Mewes converted. Glasson were far from finished and after another
good run from their outstanding Albie Towers gave enough space for
powerful Jamie Blamire to score his second try, Wier added the extra two
points.
After a tense and scrappy final 5 minutes, the referee blew for full
time and giving a score line of Glasson 14 Seaton 22 with the winners
progressing to the semi-final.
