Seaton Under 12s Match Report

Kells  0  v  Seaton  16

Seaton produced their best performance of the season when over coming a well organised Kells outfit on a very warm evening. Defence was always going to be the winning factor in these two evenly matched sides and so it proved with inspirational Kieran Mewes making his come back and leading the way for the Seaton Defence. Seaton had the advantage of the pitch slope in the first half and used it well, keeping Kells pinned in their own 20 for long periods, the Kells tackling proved up to the task until a loose carried resulted in a dropped ball which was scooped upon by Billy Southward who went unopposed under the posts, Mewes added the conversion. The match stopped that way giving Seaton a slender 0-6 advantage at half time.

From the kick off, a Kells knock on gave Seaton possession on the Kells line and hooker Jack Earl burrowed his way on the fourth tackle, Mewes missed the conversion. Kells then had wave after wave of attack but could not penetrate the Seaton line with some fine last ditch tackling from Dan Davies and Billy Southward.

The turning point of the game came when half backs Greg Kerr and Domonic Smallwood released Jon Carl Bryan who fed Billy Southward on his own 20 who bemused several Kells defenders on his way to touch down under the posts for a very classy and important try. Mewes converted to give Seaton a 0 – 16 score line.

Kells pushed hard for a consolation try late in the game and looked as though they were going to score before the referee blew for full time.
