Kells 18 Seaton 8 Top 4 Semi final
Kells and Seaton U12s played each other for the third time in a week with Kells once again coming out on top. Both teams deserve praise for the style of rugby played under atrocious conditions with gale force winds and driving rain. Seaton kicked of with the strong wind behind them, Kells kept it very tight and after a kick on the last tackle and the ball blew back to the kicker, Kells were the quickest to pounce on the loose ball which was then carried up the pitch by the excellent Kells forward Richard Marr for loose forward Adam Blake to score. Outstanding Seaton centre Kieran Mewes made a 60 yard break which was rounded off by Conor Fitzsimmons for a spectacular try. Seaton stand off Domonic Smallwood enjoyed his best game for Seaton creating gaps for his runners and putting Jon Carl Bryan into space only to be tackled on the Kells line, from the play the ball, centre Jack Parker just made it to the right hand corner for a try that was to give Seaton a 8 – 4 half time lead. Kells regained possession from the kick off with the wind behind them and scored immediately, Toby Finlay crossing for a try which was converted by Bradley Halcrow and giving Kells a slender 10 – 8 lead. Kells Man of the match Richard Marr, just made the try line after a powerful run from 30 yards out. From a tap penalty, Keiran Mewes ran 50 yards up hill and into the wind which must have felt like 200 yards ! Powerful surges from Tommy Lee Armstrong and Brandon Renny almost got Seaton back into the game but Kells came up with the final score through centre Jake Corrie and giving Kells a 18 – 8 victory. Seatons Greg Benson, Conor Fitzsimmons, Kane Bond, Domonic Smallwood and Jack Earl deserved to be on the winning side as did Dan Davies, who at full back done well just to keep warm and was starting to look a bit blue near the end. Credit must go to both teams for playing a high quality game in horrendous weather.
