Seaton Under 14s Match Report
Seaton Rangers u14s 6   Oulton Raiders 20

After impressive wins against Dewsbury Moor and Halton Farnworth Hornets Seaton Under 14s BARLA National cup campaign came to a halt against an impressive Oulton outfit, who had finished Third in the Yorkshire Junior Leagues Premier Division. A big crowd was on hand to witness a ferocious game that was played at great speed throughout and was only decided in the final five minutes of the contest. Oulton won the coin toss and elected to play up hill first and the early stages seen some excellent yardage from both sets of forwards backed up by some astute kicking from the half backs, with Seatons Greg Smith, Lewis Brown and Caine Barnes leading from the front and it was Seaton that scored the first try of the game when a kick over the top from Liam Williamson was allowed to bounce and Kyle Lawrence was the first to the ball to round the full back and go over to the side of the posts and he duly added the conversion, Oulton however didn’t panic and soon began to cause trouble of there own with only last ditch Seaton tackling denying them down the left hand side on several occasions, however the away side got on the score board after twenty minutes when they managed to drag the Seaton defence in close to the line with some powerful running and from there they spread the ball wide through several pairs of hands for a superbly executed try in the opposite corner that went unconverted and the score line remained at 6-4 at half time. In the second half Oulton came out down the hill running with even more purpose and it took great Seaton defence to repel them with the ball constantly being worked out wide and the Seaton centre combination of Bailey Walker and Lewis Mason pulled off some vital defence to keep the visitors at bay, however they took the lead when a huge bomb was hoisted and James Murray appeared to be taken out in the act of trying to catch the bomb but the referee adjudged play on and the pursuing Oulton attackers were first to the ball and the try was converted to make it 10 6. Seaton came back with a purpose and again Smith, Brown, Barnes and Luke Scott made excellent metres but came up against an equally good defence that made sure they had numbers in every time Barnes got the ball after his exploits scoring hat tricks in both previous rounds, and Josh Watson began to free the outside backs and Seaton were unlucky not to score when Watson and Bailey Walker linked up only for the final ball to the winger to be spilled and the away team sealed the victory with two tries in the last five minutes as Mason pulled off a miraculous tackle on his own line to deny his much bigger opposition number the defence was caught out by the Oulton hooker who dummied his way over from the resulting play the ball and the win was sealed by an excellent Oulton team try that seen several offloads before the ball was moved wide at speed for the winger to go over in the corner. Seaton had the final chance of the game as more excellent work from Josh Watson freed Bailey Walker but the final pass was knocked down by an Oulton defender.   Seaton put in a great effort but were eventually ground down by a much bigger team who also possessed excellent skill levels, but the cup run has been a fantastic effort by all concerned and the team have learned a massive amount from being involved and can now concentrate on there forthcoming league campaign.
