Carlisle
4 – 42 Seaton Rangers.
This game started with a fine try for Seaton’s loose forward James
Wilson, after two drives from the kick off the ball was shipped wide and
Wilson broke the line and outpaced the defence to score. Carlisle was
then awarded a penalty in front of the Seaton sticks, which their giant
number 10 converted. Seaton immediately hit back with a well worked try
from Jordan Tinkler out wide. Seaton’s fullback Shane Ackerly scored
next from a deft little pass by Callum Phillips from 20 metres out,
Tinkler converted and at 14 – 2 to Seaton after only ten minutes it
looked like a long afternoon for Carlisle. However Carlisle stuck to
their game and dug in to force the errors, this only spurred Seaton on
and James Wilson bagged his brace on 20 minutes, Jon Richardson
converted. Alex McDonald scored next from fast hands out wide and the
half finished 2-24 to the visitors.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Lee Dixon scoring a fine
try bursting several tackles to crash over, Ackerly and McDonald
completed their braces and Tinkler added three more conversions.
Carlisle had the final say through their number 10 converting a penalty
kick from 40 metres out. Seaton needed this game to blow out the cobwebs
and prepare for sterner tests to come. It has to be said that the
Carlisle team deserve a lot of credit; they gave their all and never
stopped running for the full sixty minutes.
