Seaton Under 16s Match Report





League winners Seaton Rangers took on their closest rivals in a much anticipated game and in the end came through as comfortable winners.
Seaton made the worst possible start when gifting Wath Brow good field position following a knock on which they took scoring in the corner to give them an early lead 4 - 0.
Seaton responded with a well worked try for Dan Davies when he managed to get outside  his opposite number with a great side step with Kieran Mewse adding conversion. 4 - 6. Seaton had a player given 10 minutes in sin bin following try. Seaton were then awarded a long range penalty which was converted by Mewse.  4-8
Seatons Jonathan Cameron was making tremendous yards with every touch and relentless pressure down the left flank gave Connor McCrickard a chance to sneak into the corner. 4 - 12.
Back to back penalties gave Wath Brow good possession but strong Seaton defence held strong until another knock on gave the Hornets a chance and  they scored under the posts. 10-12 at half time.
Seaton started very strongly in the 2nd half playing down the slope and Jordan O,Leary showed strength and pace to score the early try Seaton were looking for with Dominic Smallwood adding a touch line conversion 10 - 18.
Seaton were now making good yards down the middle with Connor Fitzsimmons, Ellis Mewse, Stuart Galacher, Grant Reid and O,leary charging forward giving space for the backs to play their part with Billy Southward in particular very dangerous at full back. On the back of a strong run to the line, a quick play the ball and short pass to Galacher who steamed onto the pass and  proved unstoppable scoring next to the posts, Smallwood conversion and Seatons lead was now 10- 24. Wath Brow scored next following good back up play and passing interchanges to score under the posts and they were back in the game at 16 - 24
Seaton had another playing sent to the sin bin and Wath  Brow took control over a 10 minute spell which resulted in another sending off for Seaton leaving them with only 11 players on the field.
Seatons defence was brilliant during this period and after conceding 5 consecutive penalties eventually  succumbed to a Wath Brow try in the corner and it was game on 20-24.
From the kick off, 11 man Seaton produced an outstanding defensive set with Fitzsimmons inspiring his team mates with a huge tackle causing a Wath Brow knock on.
A good ball from Jack Earl released Greg Benson who was just held up short, Conor Fitzsimmons hit the ball flat out to score next to the posts with Smallwood adding the conversion Seaton had once more pulled away. 20 - 30. Dan Davies scored a late try for Seaton after a great Jordan O,Leary pass and with Smallwoods conversion Seaton won 20 -36.
Conor Fitsimmons was awarded the Man Of The Match after the game but was first to say his team mates desire to win after going down to 11 lads was unbelievable.
